The Last Shoe

Objective:  As a skills component of the final exam, work in a group of three students to make a short video in which a person ties a shoe.
Submit:  A Quick Time video.
Assessment:  Your trio’s grade for the video will be averaged with other quiz and assignment scores.  Grading criteria as follows:

  • Resolution.  1080HD.  Progressive Scan.  Square pixels.  16:9.  Stereo.   23.976 frames per second.
  • Lighting.  Three-point lighting with plots in Documentation subfolder.
  • Camera.  The full action of the scene shot from a minimum of two camera positions and shot sizes.  White balanced.  Bracketed f-stops.  Multiple focal lengths.  10-second heads and tails with synchronizing clap.  Footage logs in Documentation subfolder.
  • Edited for Continuity.  Standard Leader.  Merged footage inserted using in- and out-points.  Frame-accurate J- and L-cuts.
  • Color.  Basic color correction using Adobe’s Lumetri Color panel and scopes.
  • Audio Mix.  A minimum of one line of lip-synced location dialogue (“There, that’s better.”) recorded in staggered dual mono with minimal signal-to-noise ratio.  Average combined levels mixed to -12dB.  Royalty-free music should be back-timed and properly attributed.
  • Post Production.  Begin with a standard leader.  Conclude with 30 seconds of silent black.  Include neither in the total running time of your video.  Production organized, sequences named, and tracks labeled consistent with course instruction.
  • Title & Credits.  Five second maximum.  List contributors as few times as possible.  Combine credits if necessary (i.e. “written and directed by”) so that no person will be listed more than twice.  Credit any content that you did not create.  Personal and location releases in Documentation subfolder.
  • Export the entire timeline (from the beginning of the bars and tone to the end of silent black) to the Exports subfolder.
