Analytical Screening: The Cinemetrics website offers helpful data for studying the pacing of films. You might look up a bar graph representing Joker (2019), for example, and track the length of each shot, noting trends as the film's emotional intensity increases or decreases. Watch Snow Falling on Cedars (1999). Compare the opening scenes on the foggy Puget Sound, or the concluding argument of attorney Nels Gudmundsson, to "Hatsue's Letter" (Ishmael's memory of an important battle). What observations can you make about relative pacing? Imagine you're editing the audio of the "Letter" sequence. What rules might govern your choices? Organize your project window's metadata.
Load subclips into the source window.
Shuttle through the subclips using "J," "K," and "L" keyboard shortcuts. Mark "in" and "out" points.
Designate audio and video target tracks in the timeline.
Transfer the marked footage to the timeline using "overwrite" or "insert" commands.

• Well composed. Angle the camera. Diagonal lines suggest depth
• Dual audio recorded between -6 and -9 dBFS (no fewer than 20 words of dialogue). The more robust the recorded waveform, the lower the noise floor. Separate audio and video tracks merged and synchronized.
• Leader (as specified here). Don't forget 30 seconds of black after your video.
• J, L, insert edits, and cross dissolves, where appropriate.
• Color corrected (using Lumetri Color panel).
• Dialogue checker-boarded (if necessary) with micro-fades; frequencies and levels sweetened (using Essential Audio panel).
• Complimented with (properly attributed) royalty-free music.
• 6-second credits (as specified here).
