CONFIGURE TRIPOD

  • Position TRIPOD as indicated by storyboard. 
  • LEVEL the head.  
  • Adjust the PAN BAR for ergonomic comfort.  
  • Secure the camera to the quick-release PLATE.

CONFIGURE CAMERA

  • Insert BATTERY and both SD CARDS
  • Select filmmaking MODE
  • (1) FORMAT media memory.  Set DATE.
  • (1) Set Movie Rec Quality to
    • FHD 1080p (1920 x 1080) video
    • 23.98 f.p.s.
    • Standard (not Light) IBP Compression
    • High Frame Rate (HFR): disabled
  • Movie Cropping: disabled
  • Sound Recording: auto
  • (3) CANON LOG SETTINGS
    • Canon Log (CLOG): off
    • Color space: BT.709
  • (7) ZEBRA settings: on
    • Zebra 1 level 60±5%. 
    • Zebra 2 level 90%
  • (3) Custom WHITE BALANCE (at each new position)
  • SHUTTER SPEED: 1/50 sec for cinematic motion blur
  • ISO SPEED: 2000 or less to avoid excess grain
  • BRACKET f-STOPS for shallow depth-of-field & to increase post-production choices

  • Shoot the entire action of the scene from every camera position, f-stop, and distance.

EACH TAKE

  • BRACKET f-STOPs

  • Director yells “Roll ’em”; Camera Operator responds “ROLLING.”
  • Stop shooting only after the director yells “Cut.”
  • LOG file numbers, f-stops, and ISO speeds.

AFTER THE SHOOT

    • BACKUP files to laptop and cloud.
    • Surrender media for SERVER transfer.
